#Artist Statement

When I was young, I didn’t want my father to show up at my school. He sometimes proposed me to pick me up but I refused.  I preferred to go home alone. Everybody would notice that he is my father, and everybody would link me to him. Everybody would look at us, look at our similarities, look at the color of our skin, look at our eyes, look at our hair – black as coal. No, I didn’t want any of that. My father didn’t show up. Because I told him no to. So he didn’t.

I was born in German, but we later moved to the Czech Republic, where I’m living until now. I don’t consider myself Vietnamese, though I would love to. I don’t speak much Vietnamese, though I would love to share some words with you. I can’t understand much Vietnamese, though I would love to hear your stories as well.

The work that I’m going to present at A Space is going to be about my journey from Czech to here. Let’s meet together and share our stories together.
